Robin Helms is the woodoworker behind Bird’s Nest Design. A native of Monkton, Vermont, Robin graduated from Whitman College with a degree in biology and spent several years working a variety of natural science jobs, including Marbled Murrelet surveys on the Oregon Coast, a ranch in the High Rockies in Colorado, and a season of native vegetation work at Grand Teton National park. After his second summer in Colorado he returned to Vermont, where he built an acoustic guitar in his father’s wood shop. That led to his first woodworking job crafting high-end Shoji doors in Bozeman, MT, a second guitar, and a career in woodworking.

Robin works out of the Sunnyland Sawdust Collective, a collaborative wood shop in the Sunnyland neighborhood of Bellingham, WA that he helped start in the spring of 2024.

With experience in construction and framing, cabinetry and casework, and find furniture and instruments, Robin enjoys the variety of work that comes through the shop and is willing to tackle almost any wood based project.
